Transforming MØDE: From Cubicle Grid to Creative Hub

Situated on the Meadowood Technology Campus in Liberty Lake, Washington, MØDE (FindYourMode) is more than a coworking facility—it’s a lifestyle campus that blends work, wellness, creativity, and community under one roof. With its expansive footprint and mixed-use offerings, the campus presented an opportunity—and a challenge—for interior transformation. What we inherited was a blank slate: rows of identical cubicles, sterile finishes, and little sense of identity. Our mandate was clear: turn this “cubicle nightmare” into a serene, cohesive workspace that feels effortless on the mind, yet rich in purpose.

A Vision for Flow and Connection

When clients come to us with a blank canvas, they’re asking more than décor—they’re asking for space to think, collaborate, reset, and thrive. For MØDE, we centered our vision around two guiding design ideals: cohesion and intentional pause.

  • Open Concept + Framed Nooks
We broke free from the grid. Rather than regimented rows of desks, we created open zones that allow light and sightlines to travel—and tucked in collaboration nooks for smaller interactions, phone calls, or moments of solitude. These semi-private insets invite asynchronous exchange without noise intrusion.

  • Soothing Material Palette
The finishes had to be subtle yet intentional. Think soft neutrals, warm woods, matte metals, and layered textures. Our choices were always mindful—no flashy trends; instead, calm, tactile surfaces that age elegantly and support focus.

  • Strategic Lighting & Ambience
Custom lighting was central. We installed ambient washes, pendant accents, and intelligent task lighting so every corner feels considered. The balance between natural light and layered artificial illumination ensures no harsh shadows or glaring brightness disrupt work modes.

  • Hierarchy of Zones
Each area carries a distinct character—quiet zones for focus, collaborative zones for synergy, lounge-style spots for informal connection. The transitions flow, but each space stands on its own identity, enhanced by curated furniture, subtle screen dividers, and visual anchors like artwork or lighting.

Crafting the Experience Through Detail

The magic happens in the details. At MØDE, we infused design gestures that enhance both utility and delight—from finishes to fixtures—ensuring the environment performs as beautifully as it looks.

  • Custom Millwork & Wood Paneling
In signature zones like the entry, reception, and main collaborative areas, we introduced warm wood paneling and custom millwork to soften the scale, provide acoustic support, and root the interior with material authenticity.

  • Textural Layering & Wall Treatments
Rather than flat paint, many walls feature bespoke wall treatments—subtle graphic patterns, soft textures, vertical fluting, or gentle embossing—to capture light and break the monotony of planar surfaces. These treatments give each room a gentle personality.

  • Lighting as Focal Art
Chandeliers, pendants, and sculptural fixtures were not afterthoughts but design anchors. In lounge areas or meeting rooms, striking fixtures become a focal point, drawing the eye upward and creating moments of visual pause.

  • Thoughtful Furniture Play
No generic desks. We curated pieces that balance ergonomics, beauty, and adaptability. Modular lounge furniture, café-style seating, and soft seating blends (boucle, leather, woven fabrics) allow dynamic configurations. Even the bar-height counter stools feel like design statements.

  • Acoustic Design & Soft Finishes
We dispersed acoustic panels, felt walls, and soft rugs strategically so the open-concept floor doesn’t devolve into a reverberating space. Behind that calm aesthetic lies serious acoustic engineering.

  • Custom Lighting Controls & Zones
Rather than one switch controls all, each zone has dimmable circuits and lighting scenes (for “focus mode,” “gather mode,” or “event mode”). This flexibility underscores the multifunctional nature of coworking space.

  • Brand-Inflected Touches
Subtle brand cues—signature palette accents, indoor greenery, curated artwork—tie back to MØDE’s identity and help users feel grounded in this local Liberty Lake hub.

Location, Community & Lifestyle Integration

A space doesn’t live in a vacuum—and for MØDE, location was part of the narrative. As a coworking destination in Liberty Lake, the design bridges the region’s outdoorsy sensibility with polished professionalism.

  • Liberty Lake & Inland Northwest Context
The palette and finishes nod subtly to the Pacific Northwest: warm woods, mossy greens, muted terracottas, and natural textures. Large windows connect interior life to surrounding nature, letting in changing light and seasons.

  • Blurring Work + Wellness
Since MØDE is not just work—it hosts fitness, creative studios, wellness, and educational ventures—our interiors had to flex. Spaces transition from coworking to wellness programming to events. Our design supports this multipurpose use.

  • Community Flow
We designed for serendipity. Casual meeting zones, café corners, wide walkways, and visual permeability encourage connection. We oriented key paths so that whether someone is heading from the fitness studio or creative wing, they move through thoughtfully curated zones, not sterile corridors.

Impact & Experience

Now completed, the interior feels less like an office and more like a thoughtfully layered environment for life, not just work. The “cubicle grid” is long gone. In its place, a calm, flexible, and expressive setting where creativity meets clarity.

Members now enter with a sense of release—light, lofted sightlines, visual breathing room. Collaboration naturally spikes in the nooks we placed; focus deepens in quiet zones. The lighting shifts with mood; furnishings adapt to different scales of occupancy. Brand cues ground users in the experience of MØDE, while regional gestures keep the space tied to Liberty Lake’s spirit.

From a blank slate, we delivered:

  • A cohesive design narrative that resonates with both professionals and creators.

  • Spatial flows that optimize light, movement, and zonal transitions.

  • High-performance finishes, lighting, and acoustic treatments that serve both function and beauty.

  • A campus interior that supports MØDE’s dual identity: coworking hub and community lifestyle venue.
